Monsters, Inc.
Confirmed to be my favorite animated movie ever. Not only is it wonderfully creative and funny, but the way it literally commodifies fear is really interesting by conflating the adult fear of running out of energy with the childlike fear of unknown monsters. I mean “We Scare Because We Care” sounds like a kid-friendly fascist slogan. But even with the latter, it’s flipped so that the fear of the child (the Other) is emphasized. Of course the solution of laughter being ten times as powerful doesn’t really translate in real life, but the fact that the ending is bringing down a top executive with hidden cameras and joy rather than fear is really cute.
Also, the “I will personally put you through the shredder!” is definitely a Fargo reference.
