So I rewatched and couldn’t get past the fact that this film is a commentary on the appropriation of black music. One fun fact is that the black people sang original blues music while the vampires sang pre-existing songs. This is basically a middle finger to the music industry and its moguls who consume, repackage and bastardize original black music by people outside the culture. Art is power. Art is ownership. Art sustains life. Art is sacred. We need to hold black art and culture with reverence and to stop its blaxploitation .
