Good Will Hunting
“Some people san’t believe in themselves until someone else believes in them first” so true, I always thought I was less intelligent than others and I often got told that and I also started to morph into that character of being dumb. I have this friend, she’s the complete opposite from me, she’s incredibly smart and she works really hard. She’s never gonna see this because she’s not much into movies and does not have a letterboxd account which is good because I would personally cringe if she found this was about her. She’s an amazing person and one day in our accounting class she asked me why I don’t try, I told her I do but she told me “I honestly believe you could do more” it sounded rude at first since her natural tone is very blunt, so I asked her “what do you mean” and she replied with how she doesn't think i’m doing my best and that she believes I could do much more if I actually tried. This group of friends in my accounting class is a funny group, we often joke a lot so I thought that maybe she was trying to make fun of me so I asked "are you being serious" and she said that she was not and she believes I'm limiting myself. I thought about it alot, she wasn't wrong. I become what other people said about me that I forgot what I can and can't actually do. Since then I started to notice her more often, how she offers to help me in math, leave her friends at lunch and stay with me and lunch to help me understand my work. She never made me feel dumb for asking simple questions that was basic knowledge for other students, she never once said "are u serious, this is so easy". She told me that i'm smart. She says she knows I'm smart and that she could tell by the way I speak passionately about things. You see, i'm in high school so "smart" only means Science and Math. Me and her don't even talk a lot because of hoe little we have in common but for her to just believe in me made me want to show her that I am what she thinks I am, it made me want to work harder and show her that i'm capable. It was math so I obviously did fail a lot but she always gave me a high five for doing more, I had a lot more confidence too. You could hear me go "WATXH THIS IS MY 70, IM GETTING A 70 I FEEL IT" I got a 60 but she was proud I was trying and honestly I was happy someone recognized me for working hard. I think it was her validation that made me much happier, I was amazed someone so smart would even bother with someone like me. She also once told me shes been wanting to be my friend since grade 9 (we r grade 11 now) which had me gagged since I was very anti social and emo looking then. I didn't realize people acrually noticed me. Me and her are still friends, very quiet but I feel much safer with her, her presence of just bring with me is honestly enough for me.
