Michael
“Mom, my name is Max” Gets the frisbee signed for Pauline
The first of the Michael Mondays, after first watching “Michael” I forgot all the films that had been made with MJ so over the next few weeks I’m going to be watching and reviewing them.
Never been to an IMAX screening in my life, when I first walked in, lowkey got overwhelmed. That’s a shit ton of screen man.
Overall just going to be reviewing it as a fan as that’s what these types of themed watch days are for.
I honestly think after watching it twice it was pretty good, had a few types of flaws and weird characteristics: like not having Janet Jackson in it at all (though she legally didn’t want to be in it they should have just had an npc actor in the back so that the audience could know she exists). Also they totally edge us with “The Wiz” outfit leaks of Jafaar, as well as the reference when young Mike was reading the “Oz” book when touring. My final negative has to go with the amount of montages, having one in a film is fine but 2 is a bit much. I understand that the editors had to go overtime with the amount of things they had to cut / reshoot so they had a plethora of extra clips. To me it would have been nice to go into detail about what was going on then glossing over through a montage, especially when they had the second one for making “Thriller”.
Now for the positives, I absolutely loved the MTV bit, lowkey Mike Myers might have carried a bit just with his awkward funny commentary of what was actively happening. Another scene that I adored is “Working Day and Night” what did it for me was right after he said that he’s done, the intensity of the music afterwards felt so affirming to what Michael just achieved. OMG when the 1988 get jumping to the music, ooooooh it was sooo good, the whole bad sequence gave me chills it was just well shot for a performance section and the music to add on-top just was amazing.
