Interstellar
Another rewatch but this time with the fellas at my local AMC’s “LieMAX”, which was still astounding in every way.
After just seeing it 4 days ago at Indy’s 15/70 IMAX, I was excited and interested to watch it again in normal IMAX to see how it would compare to the beast that is the genuine and authentic IMAX experience (15/70).
Nothing can beat the real deal but this showing was still great nonetheless, especially since I got to see it with my friends this time around. One of them actually hadn’t even seen Interstellar before which must’ve been cool because my first time was on my tv or even my phone I think.
The size differences were noticeable between the 15/70 and LieMAX shots, especially some of the scenes I loved and remember most from that initial 15/70 viewing.
Here’s most of the differences I saw between the two formats - Coop’s failed flight intro, crops being burnt in the beginning, driving through the town/dust scene in the town, Coop leaving his family/earth sequence, Almost all of Millers and Mann’s planet, sadly the docking sequence 😪, every Gargantua scene, and the most noticeable scene difference I saw happened to be my favorite scene, which was Coop going through gargantua and falling down into the tesseract from the top of it. The score was so loud and the screen’s size was so immersive in the 15/70 frame, the loud dun, dun, dun as he’s falling, all of it was absolutely incredible but unfortunately LieMAX can’t compete with that screen and sound of the real thing which dragged the scene down a bit for me.
Other than that this was a great time and it really helped me put into perspective the difference of the casual and normal “IMAX” and the experience that is 15/70 IMAX film. Tonight’s theater was 27.5 x 51.5 ft, and Indy’s behemoth is 62 x 84 ft, so you can totally see the size difference there. What a film to see on any IMAX screen. Spectacular.
