Alien: Covenant
*“Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”

I’d still say that this is the best Alien movie, and David is the anchor that pulls it together. Follow the innermost thoughts of a megalomaniacal nutcase who likes to make monsters because he can’t cope with the futility of his own existence. To destroy the creators of your creator and then unleash a new scourge upon humanity brings about a philosophy that I have never before pondered, but it’s almost like therapy to me.
The confrontation on the cargo lift after everything theoretical has seemingly gone down leaves you in shock; the synthetic versions of good and evil have just finished their fight to the death, and you’re thrust into a deadly action sequence, left to deal with the hellish culmination of Satan’s handiwork. But finally, when all is said and done: “Don’t let the bed bugs bite. I’ll tuck in the children.” This entire film has you in a chokehold from start to finish.
