Unbreakable
“It's alright to be afraid, David, because this part won't be like a comic book. Real life doesn't fit into little boxes that were drawn for it.”
This movie is amazing, i don’t even know if it actually deserves its 5 stars, but i don’t even care, the atmosphere, the composition of the shots, those long unbroken takes, the soundtrack, the themes, it all works perfectly in order to craft what is in my opinion one of the best superhero movies i’ve ever seen, if you can really call this a superhero movie.
What i know for a fact it is, is that this is a love letter to the comic book industry, one that is unfairly forgotten and diminished, and is a form of art that makes part of our culture as much as any other, something that this movies really appreciates and portrays very well.
Another theme that is present in the movie that i absolutely adore is the search for identity, and not on a cliche or corny way, but in an actual dive into the lost of the self, the waking up every morning with sadness, without knowing what’s your place in this world, knowing something is missing.
The way this movie explores those themes is honestly beautiful to me, it makes you forget that, although the world is full of filth and full of evil, the true purity and good comes from ourselves, and it is our decision to act on it, unbreakable or not.
