Yi Yi
"Why is the world so different from what we thought it was? Now that you're awake and see it again... has it changed at all? Now I've closed my eyes... the world I see... is so beautiful." – Ting-Ting
Today is my 20th birthday. I may be young on a larger scale, but in my mind feel kind of old. There's no metric by which one could determine whether they're young or old – it's a matter of perspective.
Just like the film's youngest character, Yang-Yang, I often compare myself to people that are younger than me which makes me feel old. Or maybe I compare the current me to what I used to be according to my memories. Feeling old is by no means a bad thing. I've lived for sometime now, and there's so much more to come which greatly intrigues me.
Watching Yi Yi – a film that I had previously seen over three years ago during which I've been continuously thinking about it and all along thinking it may be my favorite film ever – now for the second time, I seem to arrive at the same conclusion, even though it's impossible to only choose one. But the self reflection I have effortlessly undergone via each viewing of Yi Yi is no joke.
