Ergo Proxy
A lie is truth, until you recognize it as a lie. To see the truth behind those lies is probably the right thing to do. However, it may not necessarily bring happiness. Lies are happiness.
When I say Ergo Proxy might be my favorite piece of media of all time, I’m not exaggerating. Having rewatched this show eight times, I keep being struck by how its resonance only deepens with age.
The show feels more relevant today than ever. Its deep dives into identity, control, and the cost of human ambition are handled with a level of brilliance that very few stories ever achieve. Watching it now, as our own world slips further into an AI-driven reality, the questions it asked twenty years ago feel less like sci-fi and more like a reflection of our current reality.
So this begs the question:
What makes us human? How far will we go to feel in control? At what point does progress stop being progress and starts hindering us?
And most importantly: When will it be enough?
