I've always loved Sci fi and great world building. Avatar is a film that has both of those elements and uses them to great effect. However the story is VERY derivative. Everyone and there mom has compared this to Dances With Wolf's and that is a fair comparison. If the story was more original than I might have given it a higher rating, but the previously mentioned elements shine through the story to make this a very immersive experience. My opinions of this film are similar to that of The Dark Crystal in that the story was somewhat basic yet the world building was top notch. While I prefer The Dark Crystal, Avatar is a film I could see myself revisiting in the future. I hope the sequel will be more original, which is shocking that I am now looking forward to it. Also this is my 1,000 film so that is quite cool. 😎 Update: I have now seen Avatar ten times and consider it to be a masterpiece.
