Sentimental Value
Fucking great film. This complex family dynamic is brilliant and has amazing performances throughout. I love this entire parallel between Stellan Skarsgaard, Renate Reinsve and Elle Fanning’s characters. Elle Fanning acts as this replacement who just doesn’t sit right, a way for Gustav to try redo his relationship with Nora but inevitably doesn’t work out. This film’s cinematography is beautiful especially the framing of the shot composition. Probably the best thing about this film is how Nora is this character starved of attention who resents her father but at the same time still wishes that he was there to make up for that lost time. The entire dynamic between each family member is well done but personally I just really didn’t enjoy the editing like the cuts to black at the end of scenes just not good imo. Renate Reinsve is most likely going to win best actress though no doubt but right now I’m still saying OBAA will win the other big categories. Probably will rewatch it sometime but also gonna check out Joachim Trier’s filmography this was great
