Scream
It’s always really hard to answer the question « What’s your favorite film » and I have many, some come and go, I always discover new gems and I’m always so happy to stumble upon something new to adore. But overtime I feel it has become pretty easy for me to give a honest response that always felt right. This is my favorite movie of all time, it crosses all the cases of what makes a perfect film to me and I’m not afraid to state that this might be the most important film in horror history and horror pop culture. Its subversive approach, its metatextuality, the cleverness of Kevin Williamson’s writing and Wes Craven’s directing, the score, the cinematography, the commentary around violence, horror films and the youth, the 90s vibes, how stylish the picture looks, the cast, the thrills, how iconic it became… It has it all, the opening scene alone clears everything else and I can not get tired of it. It reinvented the slasher sub genre and will always have such an impact on cinema overall. Wes, the master that you were !
