Alien
there’s something about this movie that just encapsulates the impending feel of doom so well. i often forget this is supposed to be a horror movie honestly because i get lost in how beautifully delicate alien is. from the first frame of the movie, you could already tell how it would feel like. haunting, emotional and heavy, in all of its aspects.
everything, from the cinematography, the sound effects, the directing, the ship, the acting all the way to the alien is impeccable. rewatching this made me pay more attention to ash and how calculated everything about him was. robotic, and yet still human enough to pass. there’s so many clever and interesting aspects of this movie, like the opening scene being a debate regarding the fair share among all the crew members, when truthfully, they were being sent unknowingly on a suicide mission without the price of their life in mind by the company, which is just a plain metaphor of the greed of capitalism and companies taking advantage of it.
there’s so many frames and scenes in this movie where the pacing is slower and you can just observe knowing that something is going to pop out at you. in contrast, with the end, which in my opinion is way more fast paced, or at least it has that feeling, with every light blinking, the ship being on the verge of self destruction, the alien nowhere to be found and ultimately ripley having to survive and leave the ship.
the ending has always been my favorite part, the ship being blown up in the distance and the seemingly eerie sense of safety (or not). you know it isn’t safe and that impending sense of doom is just around the corner, and still ripley, the sole survivor of the nostromo (minus jones) doesn’t disappoint and gets the upper hand over the big dog.
i love this movie <3 and fun rewatch before romulus!!
