Blade Runner
A mesmerising but ultimately flawed film.
Visually and conceptually stunning, it's a treat to watch, but the story is very basic, jarring and unnecessary at times (we all know which scene I'm talking about).
Rutger Hauer pumped a bit of emotion into Roy, but the rest of the characters leave much to be desired.
Considering the production problems and tensions on set, it's a miracle this actually got made.
With all that said, I think the genre owes a lot to this films visual style, the setting and vibes are immaculate and it's important for that reason.
I'd be interested to see someone actually take a crack at making a good adaptation of the book, narratively Blade Runner doesn't do it justice.
