Dune
Seein part 2 in an hour and just finished up rewatching Part 1. I listened to the audio book when I worked nights at Amazon in 2021. I think this movie is a really outstanding introduction to the work of Dune. What sets this movie apart of any other recent sci-fi film I can think of in the 20s or 10s is the top level craftsmanship on display. Everything is at a fucking 11. The production design, visual effects, editing, cinematography, score, sound design, costumes, and makeup all blend together to create this extraordinarily vivid world. Dune really truly comes to life through the eyes of Denis Villeneuve and his team. My only problem with this movie is that it feels too much like a first half of a story. It totally does feel close in quality to Lord of the Rings, but by comparison, this is the first half of Fellowship of the Ring. Nothing is concluded satisfyingly for me. They find a good time to stop, I like that both movies will pretty much end on a dual. It feels to me like Villeneuve and Warner Bros took an extraordinary leap off the beam with this first Dune. Now I just gotta wait and see if they stick the landing. Luckily for me I just need to wait 90 more minutes.
