Spider-Man
Holy shit this is peak. This is one of those movies where I think the outdatedness really works to its advantage. First off my only negative about this movie and the whole trilogy in-fact and unfortunately it is a big one. Tobey Maguire in my humble opinion is not a good fit for Peter Parker. He’s too old and looks too old which is one thing but I feel he doesn’t really act like a teenager more like a 30-year old who still lives with his parents. This does make it hard for me to buy that he’s the same guy under the spidey suit. But enough harping on poor ol’ Tobey because the everything else is gold.
Maguire as The Bug himself is solid I do think hes better in the next one but still good here. Think he absolutely nails the emotional shift from unserious, goofing around with the common criminal to when he’s fighting Norman Osborn and the people closest to him are in danger. Speaking of Norman Osborn, Willem Dafoe kills it as Osborn and his alter ego, Green Goblin. His descent into the green inferno is terrifying to watch but also kinda funny in a comical way. Its the perfect blend of genuine psychosis as Norman loses his company with just the right amount of camp to really give his character a uniqueness that I’ve honestly never seen done as well before. I adore the final fight scene between Goblin and Spiderman it being set in an abandoned building gives it a pretty gritty atmosphere and they do not hold back on the blood in this like I was surprised at how brutal it was for a movie like this. And Normans death is just 😩 like the fact that he ends up killing himself with his own glider is some great poetic justice. His final line being “Don’t tell Harry” sends chills down my spine.
