Furious 7
Not sure why I was so harsh on this in my first viewing (3 stars).
Furious 7 is an all-or-nothing movie; if you aren’t bought in on La Familia the emotional beats won’t land for you, and if you aren’t bought in on the ridiculous elevation of the action it also wont’ land for you.
On the other hand, this movie has a dude jumping off of a bus as it slides down a cliff, and a wrench fight that culminates in someone stomping the ground and causing a parking lot to collapse.
The hyperstylized action really works for me, as does the focus on Statham’s character. Really the only weak beat for me is Hounsou, who is too underdeveloped for the amount of screen time he’s given. Midway through the movie, there’s very little reason for the Fast Family to keep pursuing him, yet they do?
Who fucking cares about anything I’ve written, they jump a car between two buildings - no, three buildings!
