Barbie

A year ago today the world turned pink💖 🩷I’m in denial that the whole Barbie era when everyone wore pink and bought dolls and streamed the album was a year ago (mainly because that era never ended for me). This is the 61st time i watch the movie, but nothing can compare to seeing it at the cinema in summer of 2023 in all pink and seeing so many women going together, from daughters going with their mothers to two elderly women going together. It’s crazy but i even miss toxic men talking trash about this movie because their pride was so affected by a Greta film. 🩷It’s ironic that the plot is that Barbie didn’t change the world for the better, but the movie did what the dolls couldn’t. Barbie changed everything because it managed to give me the courage to go out in pink. And yes my whole wardrobe got a barbie makeover since last summer from barbie shirts to ken socks. Also i got my first barbie doll back then. I really miss when the world was a happy place and Barbie was everyone people talked about. Also this movie gave me a lot of friend who work at the cinema since i’ve been so many times and now i know them. In my first review for this movie i wrote about how i love every single character from this movie and i still do. Also the first thought that came to mind as soon as the credits started rolling at my first watch was that this has best balance between happiness and depression. Feel happy want want to continue feeling that way? Watch Barbie. Feel depressed and want to feel happy? Watch Barbie. Feel depressed and want to feel even more depressed? Watch Barbie. 🩷This was the first movie that’s not a sequel or remake or something that i was REALLY excited about. You had to be there when the first official photos dropped and everyone hated on Ryan for “being too old for the role”. And then the leakes from LA dropped and the world went crazy for the costumes and thought Margot actually had a breakdown on set. And at the beginning of the summer when the character posters dropped everyone started making Barbie posters of themselves. Back in June i wrote to Warner Bros on all their accounts to ask about a chance to go to the Barbie premiere and they actually answered me. However, the SAG strike began right before the red carpet premiere i thought of going to so i ended up not going. But Margot’s looks at all the premieres/awards were the best marketing for a film ever. 🩷I could write an essey about the details in this film, like the fact that in all the vehicles as Barbie and Ken traveled through Barbie Land, Barbie was in front and Ken behind, and as soon as they arrived to the Real World, Ken was first. Also the costumes, as we see Ken wear a pastel turquoise and pink patterned outfit at the beginning of the film, when he had no power and once the Kens take over and Barbie loses everything she wears an outfit in those colors. Or the fact that at the end when she becomes a human she wears the sandals she refused from Weird Barbie. 🩷When Ken the EP dropped and it kinda “continued” the movie with the line “Merry Kristams Barbie, wherever you are” it gave us a glimpse of Barbie summer during winter. And then the awards season started and Margot came to teach us fashion again. The oscars were a tragic ending for the Barbie era awards-wise since Margot and Greta got snubbed for a nomination and the movie should’ve won best costumes/production. However, the oscars was still the best way to end the Barbie era with Ryan performing “I’m just Ken” one last time, bringing back all the other Ken actors on stage, with Mark Ronson and Slash and paying homage to Marilyn. And Margot wearing black was more than her “revenge dress” for not getting nominated. During all the other red carpets Margot wore pink (Barbie looks) and America wore black/not so bright outfits, but just like in the movie, Barbie wanted the real world life and Gloria wanted the Barbie Land perfect doll life, and so they changed colors to wrap up this era. Also Margot being pregnant feels like it wraps up Barbie’s character ark. “The Barbie party had to come to an end. It was time for one last song. I tried to end it on a high note i could barely hit. I’m so happy everyone had fun”~Ryan Gosling 🩷I know so many people want a sequel so we can re-experience the feeling, but what made this movie so good is that it was an original idea. I don’t believe a sequel is needed. We’re ment to lose the things we love to understand how important they are to us. However, I’m beginning european cinemas to put it back in theaters at some point since we didn’t even get the IMAX re-release back in september. 🩷Will the fact a year passed stop me from watching this movie? NO. It may take years till i get out of this era or i might never. But i would give anything to be back in july 2023 and go watch Barbie in a booked out cinema where everyone is wearing pink and is happy. As Ken said: ”Thank you Barbie… Thank you…”
