Saw in theaters. Elegance itself, as always. I love the contrast between the two halves here, the way the scale of the horror tightens as it goes from ”the vastness of space holds an uncountable number of incomprehensible, gargantuan horrors human eyes were not meant to bear witness to” in the first half to the “something terrifying is chasing you through a cramped hallway” of the second half. Accordingly, the pacing goes from patient and stately to fucking relentless, and camera movements from smooth, stalking glides to jittery handheld. And cleaved so elegantly in half by the chestburster scene, a perfectly shocking, destabilizing moment. Never regret seeing an old favorite on the big screen!
