Gladiator
This is my 2nd rewatch since I first watched this movie in summer of 2021 in a hotel room at night in Guatemala. I also watched The Matrix for the first time the same night but we'll talk about that some other time.
When I first watched this movie, I knew I watched something life changing and special, it was more than a movie, more than entertainment, it was a feeling an emotion that I had not experienced with other films. I guess its probably because it taps into the primordial male urge to protect their families and to provide for them. Maximus is a very likeable character, one that many men want to aspire to be like someday. I guess that's how I feel, to be like him and to protect my family and to provide for them.
I also consider this film to be one of if not the first film that implanted the seed of me wanting to become a director, to create a story that provides the same emotion if not one that resembles it. The music in this film only amplifies the emotion felt in this movie, Lisa Gerrards "Now We Are Free" is one of my most played songs and I consider it to be my favorites of all time adds this unbearable emotion that always makes me tear up especially at the end of this film.
