Se7en
I was long overdue a Se7en rewatch but the truth is I was very much afraid that it simply wouldn't hold up to my first impression. I was afraid it would go exactly how Fight Club went on a rewatch. And I thought I was better off not knowing whether it was indeed that good. Luckily, I summoned the courage, and it banged. Hard.
This isn't anything short of a thriller masterpiece. I read some complaints about the pace, specifically in the first 90 minutes, but that just wasn't the case. Fincher took us on a premeditated, calculated chilling ride that climaxes with arguably the best last 30 minutes in cinema history. John Doe and Kevin Spacey will forever be remembered when talking about characters and actors introduced halfway through that completely take a film by storm.
It's incredibly amusing to see Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman go back and forth throughout this 2h ride. It's incredibly beautifully shot and the score is perhaps the most chilling aspect of it all. It reminded me of how and why I was so in love with David Fincher when I first started this journey. And the greatest thing about it is that this doesn't even clear The Social Network and Gone Girl for me.
The world is a fine place and worth fighting for. I agree with the second part.
