Scream
A scary movie taken seriously
The biggest surprise for me was that “Scream” is just as much a raucous comedy as it is a horror film
Do you like scary movies?> What's the point? They're all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big-breasted girl who can't act who is always running up the stairs when she should be running out the front door. It's insulting.
A silly horror villain that actively draws attention to the fact that it’s really just some guy under the mask… but he’s still got a knife and is still capable of bloody acts of violence.
Randy: There are certain RULES that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance, number one: you can never have sex.
[crowd boos]
Randy: BIG NO NO! BIG NO NO! Sex equals death, okay? Number two: you can never drink or do drugs.
However, despite how much I laughed, and how unserious the movie is at times, it's still speaks up about some matters. It is a great delivery of the critique of mental health stigmatization and advocacy for believing women’s stories. Sydney is not just up against a monster here, but an entire community and the press. In the end, she’s able to throw the punches, adapt and outsmart her opponents.
In conclusion, 10/10 horror classic.
