Superman
Superman Receives 10-Minute Standing Ovation From Weeping Fanboy (Me) At Local Theater
Expect upwards of ten rewatches logged onto my account before this leaves theaters. No criticisms are valid. Best movie ever made. Long live the DCU!!!!
Tying with Spider-Man 2, this is the best, most comic-accurate superhero movie ever created, and it's what I've been waiting for my entire life.
For years I've been so fucking sick and tired of writers and directors hired to make superhero movies who inherently look down on superheroes as they're represented in the comics as "too silly" as if their fragile reputations will be tarnished by doing a movie about a character in a colorful costume who fights a guy called Mr. Mxyzptlk and wants to save lives. You know what any of those directors should have done instead of directing a movie whose source material they didn't even understand or enjoy? TURNED DOWN THE MOVIE.
Killing Jimmy Olsen in BVS, renaming the Penguin "Oz Cobb" because Cobblepot is too silly, making Batman's costume look like... THAT in the Dark Knight Trilogy- all of this made me frustratedly complacent since I was a kid. I hated seeing Dark Knight merchandise and Man of Steel stuff on the supermarket shelves. Even from a young age, that wasn't my Superman, wasn't my Batman. That will never be my Batman. But I never thought my Batman and my Superman would ever show up on screen. After years of "reimaginings" it seemed like a pipe dream. I shouted at the sky for years, "Why can't they just make a movie like the comics?!?!" And the universe finally listened, and this movie was made.
I choked up at the beginning, and I opened the waterworks at the end.
What this movie represents means so much to me, it means so much to the younger me, who threw a tantrum when they took away Batman and Superman's trunks in the comics, who didn't even consider The Dark Knight to be Batman, who got laughed at for preferring DC over Marvel because DC movies at the time had such negative connotation.
This movie is for that kid, and I'm so glad the cinematic universe of his dreams is finally beginning after so many years of wishing to the stars.
I'm looking up, looking forward to a better tomorrow, and smiling.
