“which would be worse: to live as a monster— or to die as a good man”
I have clung to that final line of dialogue since my first viewing of this film, and nothing has changed. This is another one of those movies where it still feels fresh on rewatch because all of the details you are able to pick up on. And let me tell you—Scorsese lives in the details of this movie. They’re littered throughout, very subtle details such as body language or dialogue with multiple meanings. Not only that, but the details in the cinematography are incredible. The way it hangs onto a seemingly simple shot, and you’re able to feel the intensity. The films looks beautiful as well, with the environment seemingly reflecting Teddy’s state of mind at times. Leo gives an amazing performance, my personal favorite of his. This is truly one of my favorite movies, and one of the best psychological thrillers.
