Her
Happy Her Day!
It’s the cinematography by the GOAT, Hoyte Van Hoytena, the warm production and costume design, the vocal performance from Scarlet Johansson, the physical performance from Joaquin Phoenix and the script and direction of Spike Jonze. This is one of the best marriages of all aspects of production in one film.
Something about this movie gets me, maybe because we’re at the point where the story could happens happen, is happening in many forms across the world. Whether it’s AI or just people who we haven’t actually met…but those relationships can still mean something meaningful. And everytime I see it, this movie means something else to me. I’ve watched this movie every year since 2020, so that meant I watched this during Covid when we couldn’t interact physically and when I didn’t want to interact with anyone. So I relate to Theodore. We’re all lonely in our own way in this internet age and we crave that human connection without having to deal with true human connection.
