C'mon C'mon
The "I won't remember?😕" line hit just as hard as it did on my first watch.
So many people must have been there for me growing up, my older relative brothers, my sisters, my parents. And it scares me how little of that I remember. What makes it even WORSE is realizing how that "absent memory" shapes who I am now. It becomes easy, even egotistic to judge people for who they are right now, to show some kind of attitude or distance myself, while forgetting that there's a whole history between us that I don't have access to anymore.
Secrets, promises, private conversations, inside jokes, little gifts, walks, rides, trips, their habits they had just for me, the small sacrifices and moments when they chose me over something else or even themselves, the way they comforted me when I was crying, all of that is simply GONE.
I mean I don't have a single "bonding" memory with my father, and it was easy for me to assume that he didn't really play any part in my life, but I've realized how wrong I was about that.
Even though the movie isn't completely about this, it still felt like a slap in the face and a reminder for me to stay grounded and be grateful for the people closest to me, especially for my mother sending me 7 hours long voice messages.
