The Batman
Matt Reeves just concocted a new genre of comic book movies with The Batman. Matt created a grungy take on the character; his take on the character. Matt Reeves created HIS Batman, and this is HIS movie. While creating his Batman, and his movie; he created a movie for the fans. New and old alike. In which that includes me. This is my Batman that I always have wanted to see on the big screen without even knowing I wanted it until I got it.
Batman emerges out of the shadows with his boots clanking like if they were the spurs on a cowboy’s boots. The louder each clank becomes as the closer he gets, the more fearful you become. Fear for victims. His eyes… his eyes say more words than a mouth could say in an entire lifetime; adding a whole new layer of fear.
Speaking of fear. The Riddler… the Riddler scares me. His first appearance in the film was like nothing I have ever seen before. Matt Reeves basing his persona off the Zodiac Killer was so perfect that I genuinely cannot imagine the Riddler being done any differently now. It’s just perfect.
Everything about this movie is masterful. The acting, the score, the cinematography, and the feeling you get while watching. You feel filthy, slimy, and grungy. It is all so expertly done. It adds so much to the atmosphere of Gotham. Nothing has ever even come close to this level of atmosphere in a Batman film before this one. I genuinely wish the movie was longer because I kept wanting more. 3 hours was not enough time. That may sound absurd, because it is, but I was not ready by the time the movie ended. I think there is going to be a sequel. There better be because I am craving more comic book movies at this level of quality and care.
