The Batman
Watched this last night during a thunderstorm. Hearing the thunder and rain as Batman entered the subway at the beginning of the film gave me one of the biggest highs I’ve ever felt. What a behemoth of a film. I just love every single creative decision Matt Reeves took with this. Portraying the riddler as a zodiac style killer is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in a CBM. The score of this film is almost haunting to listen to. Combined with the footsteps of Batman walking through darkness. The suspense that the combination creates is breathtaking. I love how even though this isn’t an origin story, the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents are so deeply integrated through every facet of this film. The city of Gotham feels like a genuine character too. There hasn’t been this much personality to a hero’s city since Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. In fact, this is the best superhero movie since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Yes, than Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Just thinking about it makes me wanna watch it again.
