Star Wars
Watched a 1993 TV broadcast today. Closest I’ve gotten to seeing it as it originally was shown in 1977, but I have the despecialized edition somewhere on my hard drive. Still good and yet I don’t get why George would want to update this masterpiece of a sci-fi film. Splendid all around, but I find it funny how much the story relies on the characters having the ability of assumption. Luke saying “I don’t know an Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I know a Ben Kenobi” is a genuine plot-forwarding device. Leia being rich (brought up by Luke to persuade Han to help them on the Death Star) is a plot-forwarding device, despite Alderaan no longer existing and the canon status of tax havens in the galaxy far far away being unclear. If it works, it works.
