coming back to this after seeing so many mike leigh movies in the last couple years makes me even more in love with lesley manville’s performance. there’s such a quiet confidence in this thing. it sways and swoons without being too in your face about the fact that it’s doing that, and is no less romantic for it. perfect taking-a-fussy-man-the-fuck-down-a-few-pegs movie :)
