Supergirl
Is it the best movie ever? no. But supergirl is still a fun and earnest one that honestly means alot to me.
Milly Alcock absolutely bodies this role. she delivers a very human take on Kara and brings to life a very real take on the struggling super hero, and the struggling woman. There were a few moments in this movie that got me like no other super hero film has in quite a while, where I was looking at the screen and it really hit me, "That's Supergirl!". That's an honest-to-god woman struggling, fighting, and overcoming the troubles of not belonging and having no home. It felt amazing, and could not have been done without Milly's passion in the role.
But unfortunately this film still has a few strong negatives going for it. As far as visuals go, this film is very muddy and unappealing to look at for a large portion of its run time which is very disappointing given how utterly beautiful the source material is. Likewise, the villain felt on par with Ronin from GOTG, or Malekith from Thor. Very straightforward and uninspired, visually unappealing and totally forgettable. I felt as though the villain, and similarly Lobo as a character had more to parallel, more to say about Kara as a character, but that potential wasn't fully tapped and left both of their characters feeling weak.
Ultimately, it's one of my recent favorites and a worthwhile watch, just not nearly as strong as it could have been. I fully believe there's something special about Milly's Supergirl, so I really hope the DCU sticks around a while longer and gets the chance to highlight her more in the future.
