Cheer
This is a review for the second season which I guess will be here until lb takes this down. Will they/Won't they??? Okay, this is pretty good, but nowhere near the heights of the first season. The main reason why is a lack of deeper focus. In the first season, you were more personally understanding the struggles of the team as well as really attempting to do character studies on cheer members. In this season, they kind've expect you to be vibing with the original returning members so there isn't a massive development in who they are after it (or at least it's not exemplified). I do think bringing another team to analyze alongside them was a good idea, but one that is done in kind've a lazy way. Some team members get good screen-time, but what is the main message between their balance with Navarro? Not tightly realized in the documentary. Another big critique I have with this season is the lack of focus on the strenuous detail in the performances. In the first season, you could feel the effort with the amount of times they had to repeat their sets. There was also an active understanding of what that performance was. Here, the footage for Daytona is lacking in comparison. This is 9 episodes as opposed to the 6 in the first season. Lots of time stretched out but not as properly assembled as other documentary films. I can imagine there was loads of footage that still could've been used, but its moreso there is lack of organization in this one. Still pretty entertaining nonetheless and I also want to give credit to the visuals as there is a desire to heighten our experiences of watching people cheerlead. Def give the first season a watch and this one is still worthy if you care enough about the first. Whole series score: 4. Second Season score: 3.5
