Parasite
The hype is real with this one. This has been peaked in the top 10 on letterboxd for a long while now, and it still hasn't fully been released worldwide.
The film has so many wonderful layers around its narrative and its genius. Sure, the idea of a poor family conning a rich family isn't unique, but it's all the other aspects of the film that tie it perfectly together. Also, the final act is such a curveball, which helps make it narrative unforgettable and clever.
It mixes its blend of Black Comedy with its intense dramatic moments so seamlessly, and the tone is always perfect, and never feels over the top. All of the members in the family have fleshed out characters and play important and equal roles within the film.
Alongside all of this, the film has flawless direction and cinematography, which makes sense considering Bong Joon Ho's earlier works that also look stunning.
I can't find anything wrong with this film. It's quite an engaging film, especially when expectations are subverted near the end. I'm not sure if this film would have the same impact on a second watch, but at this moment, this is a fantastic film and deserves it praise.
