The Suicide Squad
Regarding the directors chair, this is likely James Gunn’s magnum opus, even above works I honestly prefer. So many massive swings and not one of them is a miss. This movie is beautiful and absolutely stunning, decisions such as chapter cards, a flowery fight scene like Harley’s and filming a portion of a very important fight scene through the rotation of a a reflective surface are on paper risky but they are pulled off without a hitch. Overall a major piece of praise for Superman and my biggest complaint about Creature Commandos in the lack there of is rooted in this, the idea that we can just be thrown right in and don’t need to know everything about a character’s backstory, just enough to tell the actual story. Every character is properly developed and worked through, showing us so much of them without ever having to delve into every little thing about them; something which could’ve easily been a pitfall for this movie considering the use of so many smaller characters. Show me why I should love this character, don’t tell me I should and leave me wondering what’s going on. This is definitely a movie worth a seasonal rewatch just to be brought back ti face with such wonderful characters.
