BEEF
(Compiled all my episode reviews into this one to stop letterboxd from thinking I rewatched the series 10 times)
★EPISODE 1★ June 8th
Decided to rate the series one episode at a time, to check how my rating changes through time.
First episode, solid. Really depressing scene with the carbon monoxide thing, but still not emotionally connected enough to feel depressed about it.
★EPISODE 2★ June 8th
Getting better 100%
★EPISODE 3★ June 10th
That church scene was heart-breaking and completely expands on the depressiveness of episode 1's carbon monoxide scene.
I feel like I will love Danny's storyline. I just fail to connect as well with Amy because of her position.
I love though the overall anti-capitalist dread both stories are expanding on, the depression of realising your whole life is working and it shouldn't naturally be like this, and how this depression turns into everyday agression is a really interesting concept to dig into.
Also, Paul has literally became one of my favourite characters. He is actually so nice.
★EPISODE 4★ June 10th
Paul best character confirmed.
★EPISODE 5★ June 10th
A really good fucking episode. Not better than last one, but still a solid 4 stars.
★EPISODE 6★ June 10th
YOOOO. fucking incredible episode, love how much better it gets with each episode.
★EPISODE 7★ June 11th
The pacing feels off now.
They did a time jump in this one out of nowhere and that threw me off, and now the plot felt stuck until the end of the episode, almost like it were the beginning of a new season, even though it's not, it's barely after half of the season.
It was honestly holding onto 4 solid stars, but I didn't really like this one. It fell into 3½ territory.
★EPISODE 8★ June 11th
Okay, fuck yeah, this episode got it back to 4 stars. SUCH AN AMAZING EPISODE.
Perfect and creative cinematography for the episode that finally does what I've been waiting for like the last 3 episodes: Amy confesses everything to George AND we get proper contextualisation of Amy and Danny's characters and past.
If I were rating the episodes this would absolutely be 5 stars.
★EPISODE 9★ June 12th
Obviously not at this level, but I know the feeling, when you hide the truth, lie and manipulate your circumstances over and over again until there's no way back. You are in too deep and everything is spiralling down.
This one and last episode are incredible, and I feel like if there were more episodes at this level, I would give the series a bigger rating. But I don't think it would be fair to give it 4½ or 5 stars just because of the last episodes.
Also, fuck y'all, my favourite character deserved better.
★EPISODE 10★ June 13th
AAAAH. FUCK.
...
I have two wolves inside me and they are just Amy and Danny tripping off berries...
And Paul is just chillin in my brain because he's cool like that.
I still can't believe it's over. I want to see more. I need to know what happens with them. They deserve so much and so little at the same time, and I'm still worried about them.
