Oldboy
Happy Father’s Day, fucktard
As much as this seems like a “one and done” type of twisty movie, it gets exponentially better upon every rewatch. Yes, the twists are shocking on the first watch, but revisiting it with a full scope of the story—what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what’s going to happen next—somehow makes this experience captivate one’s attention even more aggressively. It gets far easier to focus on the technical splendor, somehow more disturbing, and a hell of a lot funnier, in its own twisted way.
It’s virtually impossible to say anything about this film that hasn’t been said before, but I can’t believe I didn’t see how perfect of a film this was before recently. It’s a masterpiece of technical electricity. Everything looks, sounds, and feels exactly the way it should, and if that’s not enough, it successfully bombards its audience with thousands of different feelings all at once. The energetic visuals are shot and edited with absolute mastery, allowing the atmosphere and emotion to be dialed up to the max. I mean, that corridor fight scene? Holy smokes.
There’s no other film like Oldboy. There will never be another film like Oldboy.
