Magnificent and brilliantly executed. Just love his beautifully in tune with the world this is and how exceptionally perfect every aspect was done with. It's visually beautiful, acted beautifully, written beautiful and directed beautifully. It's turns such a simplistic and isolated tale into this holy and incomprehensible pressure. You, along with the Cardinals, become so enraptured with the claustrophobic politics you lose sight of their purpose, perfectly reflecting their divergence from faith and the world. We become as out of touch with the world as they are and then are brought starkly back down to reality again and again. Random but there are some parts of it that feel akin to Twelve Angry man ... Just claustrophobia of warring egos. And in the end it chooses something so beautiful and faith restoring. Brilliantly critiquing the church while hailing the goodness of faith. Not a Catholic myself, you still feel the weight and beauty to what this decision could and should be. You are still moved by all of it. It cleverly incorporates social issues in a way that is natural and heavy handed. How they handle race and gender is so subtle but smart. The eyes and ears of the women (captured through the irreplaceable Isabella) in the shadows particularly stuck with me. And of course it's approach to gender is so moving and has the potential to enlighten some. I hope the performances in this are in Oscar contention. Obviously Ralph as fantastic but Carlos Diehz is a scene stealer. Just all around exceptionally made movie.
