Halloween
Nothing quite like preparing for Halloween by beginning my Halloween marathon one week from the big day!!!! Michael Myers is definitely one of the most iconic and scariest characters in all of cinema. I love how we don’t ever get a full on focused shot of Michael in this film. I love how he’s always portrayed as a mysterious and creepy guy who lurks in the darkness ready to prowl on his victims. The cinematography helps create this eerie vibe with Michael and is quite honestly one of the best aspects of the film. I just love how crisp everything looks and I especially love the POV shots and nighttime scenes. The opening scene is pretty damn good and introduces us to Michael in a very startlingly bizarre way. As the film progresses, it grows with intensity and becomes an overwhelming piece of terror that made me feel scared for the characters. I just love how perfectly Carpenter times each scene and how terrifying each scene with Michael is. The closet scene is probably my favorite of the film and is such an uneasy and emotionally stressful sequence. The writing is really well done and I highly adore the fact that Laurie was written in such a respectful manner. I love how she is able to make smart decisions when fighting Michael and holds her own against one of cinema’s most iconic slashers. Jamie Lee Curtis is completely and utterly fantastic in this and was probably one of the first scream queens ever!!! I also REALLY loved the iconic score by John Carpenter and that ending was awesome, even if it doesn’t make much sense. Anyway, this was great, as always, and I am looking forward to watching the rest of the Halloween franchise!!!!!
