Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!! You already know I had to watch this on the big day!!! After a glorious day of watching horror movies, trick or treating with friends, going to a Halloween party, and dressing up in a costume, watching John Carpenter’s iconic slasher that changed the entire genre for the better was the perfect thing to not only close out my absolute favorite holiday, but also October as a whole!! I have spent the past two months watching horror movies nearly everyday and even though I will still watch a few here and there during the rest of the year, October is the month in which I watch the MOST!!!! I’ve been having a terrifyingly horrific time this month and I’m sad to see Halloween come and go. But now it’s onto Thanksgiving and CHRISTMAS!!! Anyway, Halloween (the movie) is one of my absolute favorites. Michael Myers is iconic, the music is absolutely perfect, the cinematography is gorgeous and is always able to make Myers all the more haunting, the ending is one cemented in horror history, and the cast is staggeringly exceptional!! Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence steal the show, especially near the end. The final fight between Laurie and Myers is one of the best sequences in the entire movie and my favorite scene remains the closet one. Also, I’ve never mentioned this before but I absolutely LOVE how in the credits Myers is credited as The Shape. It makes him even more scary and it sort of dehumanizes him into this “thing” or “monster” that kills kills and kills rather than a man who has thoughts and feelings. I mean hey, I don’t think I would view him as a mortal man after that insane ending. But perhaps that’s why Carpenter has the kids that Laurie is babysitting watching The Thing from Another World, or it’s his way of foreshadowing his next work which is in my opinion his best. But yeah, this is a movie all about how evil isn’t easy to kill. Myers is the personification of evil and it never truly goes away. Evil is always present, it’s just our jobs to cast it out and make sure it doesn’t come back for a long long long time. Well, it was another successful Halloween!! I hope everybody else had a good one too!!
