this is the type of horror movie that reminds me why i love horror in the first place. genuinely one of the most uncomfortable, tragic, and disturbing movies i’ve seen in years. the whole movie feels cursed from the start and michael johnston plays bear so well because underneath the awkward “nice guy” act he’s genuinely terrifying. nikki is so clearly the victim the entire time and her actress absolutely carried this movie. every scene where she’s fighting against whatever the wish turned her into was horrifying and heartbreaking at the same time. the screaming during the call scene and that ending are gonna stay in my head for a long time. and honestly the ending makes the movie even darker because nikki has to live with all of it forever. everyone’s dead, bear is dead, and she has to wake up knowing she was basically trapped inside herself while all of this happened around her. just bleak as hell in the best way possible.
