I don't even know where and how to begin with this?? such an experience!! had to school myself into the cool girl nonchalance everytime I felt myself smiling too widely lmao. COMMUNITY!!! it was so so immersive. felt like I was part of the gang. beautiful character work and world building. the inner lives are so rich it easily overshadowed the vampire of it all. seriously, the vampires felt like a subplot!! which is completely okay with me. vampire metaphors are obvious enough but what the story is telling with each subsection of people is amazing!! this movie is the sexy and freak nosferatu promised to be!! the drool??? physically gagged, nasty freaks!! love the women in this sm btw!! Annie loml!! the voice and heart of the story to me tbh. singlehandedly saved all of them. narrative framing her as the objective truth holder was important to me! every time the team had to make a choice, seems like they went with the coolest one. also, pauline's entire performance??? if I didn't already know i was gay 🙂‍↕️ on a more earnest note, needed to be in the crowd to stomp and jump. what a joy! now sammie??? that's my baby!! just like he was everyone's. miles, you've bewitched me with the deep voice that does not belong to that face!! you are SOUL! sing to meeee, babyyyy coming to serious stuff... the hyped and spoiled musical sequence? doesn't matter how many descriptions you've read, watching it is really an experience. actual goosebumps and all! eyes welling, heart filling, etc etc it was very serious. a small section has folk drumming and it so so like dalit folk music- yeah kinda broke me. that added with slim narrating his story... reminded me of so many community elders and their eyes that always carry the pain delroy projected. honestly devoured the role!! we stan!! really wished they added 20 mins more to have a spread out action against vampires. just a little rushed 3rd act but otherwise?? it is exactly what it's hyped up to be!! stack and smoke! what a double act. twins sometimes feel so cartoonish when they are heavily contrasted but these two just felt like brothers. ofc the interview with the vampire comparisons didn't helpp. Idk I really like that so much time was dedicated to showing their personalities and motivations. also all the men are real women lovers!! yummyyyy can't not talk about music!! music is everything in this. if not for the amazing sequence, the music utilised throughout the movie just felt like a musical almost. and there was sm comedy i didn't expect (THE WHITE DEMON SPOKE CHINESE!!) a lot of redundant yapping but this movie is just so good. I had funnnnn fuck them vampires lol. hope the whites know that you have to be a different level of evil to exist during the same time as vampires and still come out to be the main monster. abolish recency bias and give all the awards to this! coogler you are an icon!!
