Good Time
my third watch of this masterpiece just confirms that this is the best a24 movie for me. its like martin scorseses after hours but with a bank robber. the whole movie is just so paranoia enducing, with the excellent cinematography and score paired with the safdie brothers masterful directing. but robert pattinson is giving 110%. he just embodies connie nikas. hes the protagonist, and youre supposed to be invested in his journey and his character, but youre not supposed to route for him. hes a terrible person, but its just so entertaining to watch him. hes a manipulator, and i think a prime example of this is when crystal is being put in the cop car, and connie makes no attempt to intervene. hes willing to let other people take the fall for him and his actions. his only redeeming quality is his brother, and how connie wants to do what he thinks is best for him, but in reality hes a terrible older brother and person. it starts with him pulling his mentally handicapped brother out of an appointment with a psychiatrist trying to help him, then he takes him on a fucking bank robbery, then basically lets him get caught, then instead of turning himself him, he goes and tries to break him out and make him a fugitive, then manipulates and attacks a bunch of people. he thinks he knows whats best for nick, when in reality the best thing he couldve done was go to the cops. speaking of his brother, we needed more of nick, bc benny safdie is also amazing, and is one of the best actor/directors working today, and im so hyped for the smashing machine. also it has one of the best openings ive seen, and the last 10-15 minutes, with connie getting arrested is peak. i love this movie so fucking much.
