Hereditary
*So now I can't accept.
And I can't forgive. Because nobody..
Nobody admits anything they've done. *
I've heard the craze around Hereditary ever since it was unleashed onto the world. The idea that it could possibly be everything it was made out to be seemed impossible to me, but here we are. It's a textbook picture of ugly and uncomfortable grief, embroiled up to its neck in a nightmare. True, nasty horror that makes you feel as if you're peering in on something you're not supposed to witness. Aster is insane. I saw Midsommar before I saw this, so maybe the impact of this being his directorial debut wasn't as fierce but it doesn't change the power behind his work here. The fact that it is his debut is mind blowing. Toni Collette was nominated for and won the Academy Award as far as I'm concerned. It's a vehicle for her sheer ability, Annie getting run through an emotional ringer allows Collette to dominate each and every single scene she's in. Alex Wolff also has so much more prowess as an actor than I ever would have expected him to. Peter's arc is crushing in its tragedy and suffocating in just how dreadful it is. Fiendish, frightening and everything I was told it was. I even wiped away a tear or two along the way.
