John Wick: Chapter 4
John Wick Chapter 4 feels like it was made for me. Everything from the songs, cinematography, pacing, acting, plot, dialogue, camerawork, set pieces, ending, etc. feel so perfect to me and bring so many different emotions and vibes that leave me feeling so satisfied throughout the film and days after watching it.
Chad Stahelski is the perfect action director, he seems to know everything about when to cut, how long shots should be, and just in general how exciting and cool an idea is to put into a film. There are so many incredible creative decisions that elevate this film. Keanu Reeves plays John Wick perfectly, as well as the actor actors. Hiroyuki Sanada is amazing as always, Donnie Yen too. This was my first taste of Shamier Anderson and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance, as he is likely my favorite character in the film. Scott Adkins and Bill Skarsgard both played amazing antagonists with accents, and RIP Lance Reddick. Ian McShane is great too, per usual.
The cinematography is so incredible, every shot captures a vibe and moment so perfectly they could be wallpapers. The camerawork works in favor of the film as well, the top-down scene is probably the best action scene ever and my favorite action moment ever is when John Wick gets off of the floor in the Himmel und Holle and Wetwork begins to play.
Speaking of the soundtrack, there are so many songs in this film that I have listened to countless times. Genesis, Dreams, Wetwork, Blood Code, Osaka Phonk, Paris Radio Intro, Long Way Down, Nowhere to Run, Paint it Black and Ever Now are just some examples of the incredible music choices in this film that I feel such an intense personal connection to.
Every set piece is so amazing. To name a few, the Osaka Continental, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Couer, Himmel und Holle and the Parisian Apartments all stood out to me as such great action set pieces that made for unforgettable scenes.
Many lines are so quotable and written so well that you wouldn't have guessed they came from an action film. The script is perfect to me, and lines are delivered so well.
Overall a strong 5/5 and my favorite movie of all time.
