Les Misérables
the on my own x one day more song is absolutely the best end to act 1 i’ve ever seen.. sorry not sorry.
this film was made to be seen in theaters like wow. it was stunning on the big screen and honestly the best viewing i’ve had of this movie and i’ve seen this at least 6 times now. there’s something so special about seeing a GOOD musical in theaters that it just makes me want to make Heathers The Musical even more. movie musicals work when they aren’t afraid to lean into the broadway side and this is no different. they are literally singing for almost the entire movie with very few spoken lines of dialogue. it’s amazing and everyone is just randomly singing without hesitation like.. 😭😭
the songs and music here are clearly the star like they’re so well written and composed. the singing from everyone is great (some better than others), but i’ll never understand the Russell Crowe hate for this because he’s honestly not that bad like cmon now. also, Anne Hathaway deserved that Oscar win for her performance like i am in tears anytime she’s on screen. the cinematography here is also pretty good too but there’s definitely some weird shot choices and editing that’s rather jarring, but it’s not too distracting. the film also runs very long but at this point i think i’m used to it and wouldn’t want to see it any other way.
top 10 songs:1. One Day More (Act I — Valjean, Marius, Cosette, Éponine, Enjolras, Javert, Thénardier, Mme. Thénardier, Cast of Les Misérables)2. On My Own (Act I — Éponine)3. Do You Hear the People Sing? (Act II — Enjolras, Marius, Students, Beggars)4. I Dreamed a Dream (Act I — Fantine)5. Javert’s S** (Act II — Javert)6. The Confrontation (Act I — Javert, Valjean)7. Epilogue (Act II — The Cast of Les Misérables)8. Valjean’s Soliloquy (Act I — Valjean)9. Look Down (Act I — Convicts, Javert, Valjean)10. Stars (Act I - Javert)
Javert and Éponine are my favorite characters like idc.. Javert is an amazingly written main antagonist that i personally loved every scene he’s in as he faces his moral dilemma of can a man change from a prisoner to a “good guy”. Éponine is just a heartbreaking character that deserves so much better in her life, and i’ll never stop loving her character especially how she wasn’t toxic towards Marius and Cosette being in love (except one tiny tiny thing).
yeah.. i like this musical and idrc. it’s a good movie musical that i’ll always be able to revisit. if y’all can, definitely see this in theaters because i don’t know when it’ll be back in theaters, if ever.
