Scream

rewatching these before scream vi comes out, but this one is the original and will probably always be the best. it’s self referential, funny, few attempts at jump scares, and pretty likable characters. it does get kinda boring as it goes on but it’s alright. the camera work was really funky in a good way and i love that horror films have so much flexibility with how to approach things. a few characters were robbed and killed to just be killed but it’s a movie so i’ll get past (spoiler but not really since it’s been well over 20 years) tatum’s very stupid and pointless death. billy and stu in the final scene were really good and i wish they didn’t (spoiler but not really) die cause they are great actors but it’s fine. somehow the writing was able to know when to throw in jokes and when not too and remain fairly unpredictable which is cool. i’ll always love the craven x williamson collaborations. overall, it’s another slasher movie and the horror movie references is what makes this so different from others.
