Prisoners
Denis Villeneuve’s “Prisoners” is one of my favorite movies. The beginning shows us one of the worst situations that could possibly happen to any family. The whole movie shows us how despair and hopelessness can drive people into situations that are far from any moral, bur are their last hope. The cast is fantastic. The parents of the kids and especially Hugh Jackman play their hopelessness and despair in such a great way. The anger Jackman shows and the bathroom scenes are so intense and gripping that you would like to look away, but you can’t. Jake Gyllenhaal as detective Loki and Paul Dano as Alex Jones deliver some of their best performances. The score by Jóhann Jóhannsson and the cinematography by Roger Deakins create an unique atmosphere of terror. The twist is surprising, but conceivable and realistic and the end holds one of the darkest and most depressing open ends in film history.
