Buffalo '66
A truly insufferable depiction of Gallos wet dreams but I can't help but love it.
It's been forever since last saw this and it definitely still stands as one of my favorites. I really can't even explain why I like it, everything about this film is so absurdly weird and it really shouldn't work as well as it does. I still remember how impactful this felt the first time I watched it too and I think that somewhat affects my opinion on it now too.
I still wish they did more with Laylas character though like that could've genuinely made this film so much better. It's obviously clear Billy and Gallo (basically just Gallo) are both very self centered and he probably didn't even think of giving Layla an actual personality outside of being a supportive character for Billy. I think it would've been better for the story and the whole showing "two broken people finding connection" if they actually even told us something about her. She was NOT broken gng she was a young girl with stockholm syndrome and some crazy issues. He really made himself the broken guy who gets fixed by this no personality female character.
It's clear my dislike for Gallo is still strong. That man actually pisses me off so bad like this creep really made not one but two films with somewhat the same premise and decided he needed to be the main actor. I have yet to see the brown bunny but watching this film alone is so funny at parts knowing he wrote and directed it all himself. The self glaze goes insaneee wym the "most handsome guy" like unc... The stuff I've heard about his other popular films though isn't any better.
I still do love buffalo 66 though. Very beautiful and peaceful cinematography with soft colors (apart from Gallos horrendous red boots that kept haunting me in every scene).
