Obsession
Seriously brutal. This is what I believe horror should be, the premise is relatively simple for what I think is being said. Bears obsession of Nicky shows right away what kind of person he is, how he thinks of her, what he wants from her. It’s especially telling that he can’t seem to share any positive thoughts and feelings to her. He can’t in a normal way, acknowledge his feelings towards her, and he feels compelled to make her. Right away Nicky’s performance was phenomenal, she was really really great at showing a convincing love, while also hiding the fact that she wants nothing to do with it. She was able to convey the two characters she was playing even in the same sentence. Even with her over the top moments, her complete commitment feels so uncanny and unreal. Genuinely horrifying.
This movie had me locked in to the screen, the visuals felt like the director had 100 percent control over his vision, each shot felt so incredibly intentional that you HAD the time to search the screen for clues, even ones that increased the tension even more. I could talk for hours what I liked about this movie visually, but I seriously think it’s a masterclass of the genre of horror, and it’s exactly what I will expect from one in the future.
I really can’t appreciate this movie enough, I’m torn between keeping it strictly a theater experience or rewatching it to feel the movie more.
