BEEF
Beef season 2 has thoroughly stumped me.
For the most part I loved it, I was worried about the larger cast this season but I think most of them were real characters. I didn't especially love the larger evil this season compared to last seasons quite pure small scale beef but I didn't mind it if they explore different things again.
I think if Frank Herbert was still around he would get such a hard on for Lee sung jing's writing here, it is a masterclass in his "coital" style and I loved it, each episode had such a build but overall the season still managed to build and crescendo.
I found this season's beef less overall compelling but I enjoyed the avenue it explored especially with the ending being almost happy, as in that they all come out in a better position because of it rather than last season's obviously terrible fate for all the characters.
My only hang up was with the writing of the female characters specifically Ashley and Lindsay, only as a undeveloped thought, I think that they were written far more antagonistically than the male leads, especially in the initial fight I felt extremely bad for Josh and that carried most of the way through, he felt more like he was carried into bad things and after the trip I don't think he had a bad bone in his body. Initially I thought this was only for Ashley but then Lindsay tricked Austin and lead him into the situation they ended up in, Austin wasn't that "beef"-ey of a character he made some bad decisions around Eunice but otherwise treated everyone around him pretty well?. I don't necessarily think this a bad thing for the characters I just felt it was odd and that the leads should have equal levels of emotions from the audience. - leave a like and a comment down below on whether you agree with me 👇
I'm excited for Beef to carry on as an anthology series and to explore more of the reprocutions and fallouts that are possible.
